Microsoft Decommissioning Support for Application Impersonation in Exchange Online

Written by David Prekel | Nov 18, 2024 7:52:09 PM

Microsoft will begin blocking the assignment of the Application Impersonation role in Exchange Online starting September 2024 and in February 2025 removing this role and its feature set from Exchange Online.

This removal will impact any existing configurations or workflows that rely on Application Impersonation, necessitating a transition to alternative methods or roles to maintain functionality. Organizations using this role will need to plan and implement changes to their systems to ensure continued operation without disruption.

What it Means for iManage environments:

For our iManage environments, this will affect your Communication Server if you are using the User credential configuration OAuth2
. If you are depending on the Communication Server to file your email with the User credential settings, it will fail at this time. This means that any automated processes or workflows that depend on this configuration will no longer function as expected, potentially leading to disruptions in your email management and filing systems. It is crucial to assess your current setup and prepare for these changes to avoid any interruptions in service.

Action Needed:

If you have not moved from the Communication Server to client-side filing, you can change your configuration to utilize the App Credential authentication.
