Starting February 2024, the world’s largest mailbox providers Gmail and Yahoo will no longer accept emails from the Organizations that don’t have certain email security features such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC for their outgoing external emails. If an organization has not implemented SPF, DKIM and DMARC and sends emails in bulk (Ex: Marketing emails) to Gmail or Yahoo mailboxes, the emails will be tagged as spam and will not be delivered.
Why should administrators Implement SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
SPF, DKIM and DMARC records authorizes all the outbound external emails from on Organization and enable the recipient organization to validate the incoming emails against the security standards before delivering them to the user mailboxes. Implementing SPF, DKIM and DMARC with appropriate records is a vital step in the process since any misconfiguration may result in the outgoing emails to get tagged as spam.
Does implementing SPF, DKIM and DMARC affect Outgoing emails to other organizations?
Almost all the organizations require and honor the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records to validate the incoming emails. So, implementing these email security features will not affect your Outgoing emails to other organizations. While Implementing SPF, DKIM and DMARC with appropriate records increases the security of the outgoing emails, it must be implemented in phases with caution. Misconfigured records may result in legitimate outgoing external emails to be rejected.
If an Organization use Third-Party Marketing/Ticketing/Survey tools such as Mailchimp, ConstantContact, ServiceNow, SurveyMonkey etc., it is highly recommended to ensure they all meet the email security standards in order to have uninterrupted Outgoing emails.
